JibbSmart's Notes

Most console shooters give the player access to only a few weapons at once. One motivating factor for this is that keyboards can have a unique key for every weapon, but it's impractical on gamepads for most games. But Quake is different. No reloading, dedicated melee/grenade, etc.

So, this config puts every weapon shortcut at your thumbs. D-pad covers weapons 1-4, tap the face buttons for weapons 5-8. Now, in practice, you rarely want to let go of the left thumbstick to press something on the d-pad. So you can also hold the face buttons for weapons 1-4. It takes a little practice to commit the weapon shortcuts to muscle memory, but you'll get used to your favourites quickly.

R3 for your special ability, R1 and L1 (shoulder buttons) for primary and secondary fire, respectively. R2 to disable gyro -- by using a trigger, it's easier to handle the flick stick at the same time. L2 to jump.

Just as with keyboard and mouse, with a little practice you can get the hang of strafe jumping and circle jumping.

How to Use this Config

Using JoyShockMapper configurations is easy once you know how. If you haven't used it before, check out the guide. For using a community config like this one, you only need to get through the first two sections — Installing JSM and Using an already-made configuration file.

Just copy the above configuration into a text file, change the IN_GAME_SENS to match your in-game settings, and then drag that file into JoyShockMapper and hit Enter to use it right away. Some games have their own limitations with certain controllers or require some extra setup, so make sure to check for any notes near top of the main Quake Champions page.
